Framingham Death Reclassified As Coronavirus-Related

The Framingham coronavirus death toll ticked up by one on Monday to a pandemic total of 120.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham added a new coronavirus fatality over the weekend, but the death was previously thought to be unrelated to the pandemic.

Framingham's coronavirus death toll now stands at 120. In recent weeks, health officials have subtracted two deaths attributed to coronavirus following new Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidance.

Also on Monday, city health officials reported 15 new coronavirus cases since Friday. This is the second weekend in a row where Framingham has seen a double-digit rise in new cases. The city added 16 new cases over the July 17 weekend.

The number of active coronavirus cases in Framingham was holding steady at 85.

Cases across Massachusetts are also ticking up. On Monday, the statewide seven-day average positive test rate ticked up to 1.9 percent. The state began July with a 2 percent positive test rate, which dropped to about 1.7 percent by the middle of the month.

Also over the weekend, Massachusetts Medical Society President David Rosman suggested the state revert to phase 2 of the reopening plan due to the rise in cases.
