FRAMINGHAM, MA — A Framingham man who started a mobile barber business this year got some good news this week.

Carlos Omar Montes was gifted a refurbished minivan from Good News Garage, the Vermont nonprofit that provides vehicles to people in need. Montes will use the van for his business, Omar’s Mobile Barbershop, which provides haircuts for people who can't leave home.

Montes' 2005 Dodge Caravan was donated to Good News Garage, and a mechanic who donated their time made sure it was in working condition.

Montes has also been donating his services during the pandemic. He cut hair at the Turning Point Shelter in Framingham this winter. He started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help cover costs related to his charitable efforts in January.

Montes started his business after attending an entrepreneurship boot camp at Boston College Law School for Massachusetts residents who have served time in prison. As part of the camp, he had to pitch his business idea to a group of investors recently, according to a profile in the Boston Globe.
