Framingham Standoff Suspect Owns Pizza Shop He Was Staked Out On

Justin Brakespear had two dealings with the police on Thursday. The second ended with him coming down from the roof of his pizza shop.

UPDATE: The following is the original post from Thursday night. You can see what happened when the suspect was arraigned in court Friday on six counts of attempted murder and others charges, and you can watch footage from the State Police Air Wing of the standoff.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — The apparent owner of a pizza shop was arrested after allegedly engaging in a police standoff on top of said pizza shop Thursday night. Justin Brakespear was arrested after police talked him down off the Slice of New York Pizza shop on Edgell Road, the same building they had an encounter with him at earlier in the day.

By night's end, police had Brakespear, who allegedly fired gunshots and caused a shelter-in-place advisory from Framingham police, in handcuffs. The area near Nobscot Square had been shut down for two hours as a heavy police presence filled the streets.

Framingham Police had responded to a civil matter involving Breakspear and a female at the Slice of New York Pizza shop around 6:12 p.m. Officers addressed the parties involved and cleared the area, a Framingham Police release said.

Police then received a transfer call from State Police around 8:30 p.m. in which a female reported Breakspear left their home with a gun. There was a large police response "due to his history," the release said. Brakespear appeared in Patch's Framingham Police logs in 2015 for drug charges. A Google search of his name shows a Justin Brakespear of consistent age getting in other trouble with the law.

When police reached Whiting Road Thursday night, officers reported shots had been fired. No injuries were reported. Officers secured the area and a SWAT team was called in. A shelter-in-place order was put in effect.

Police located Breakspear atop the pizza shop roof. State Police brought in a negotiator and Air Wing to assist.

State police said at about 11 p.m. Breakspear was in custody, roughly two hours after the area was shut down. The shelter-in-place advisory was then rescinded. No injuries were reported.

Breakspear, in a tattered white shirt, was seen in custody on television news broadcasts.

A call to the pizza shop Thursday night wasn't returned. The website says "Justin and Neko look forward to building up the Neko's of New York brand at their flagship location before expanding and opening their next restaurant."
