Last Pizza Slice Sells On Sunday As Beloved Framingham Bakery Closes Its Doors
Framingham Baking Co. has closed for good after more than a century in business.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — More than a century after this popular pizza maker began, and a month since it announced it would close, Framingham Baking Co. has sold its last slice.
Just after noon on Sunday, the business reported that two women, both named Lisa, had purchased its final batch of pizza.
“That’s a wrap!” Framingham Baking said in a Facebook post. “Special thanks to all of our loyal customers! It was a great run. We love you!”

The bakery produced bread, rolls, desserts and other delectables, but is perhaps best known for its pizza. It came in 18-square-slice “party size” sheets and over two dozen varieties.
Framingham Baking Co. began in 1917 when three family members, all Italian immigrants, opened the shop at 840 Waverly St. in the city’s Tripoli neighborhood. In February, the company’s owners – three siblings of the Thomas family, grandchildren of a founder – announced they would turn off their ovens permanently on March 29.

The news quickly sent devoted customers into a feeding frenzy, with many lining up before dawn to stock up while they could.
For the past month, FBC has tried to meet the demand.
“Last year on these same dates we made 1,885 pizzas. This year we made 6,053 with another 240 being added tonight,” the company said late Saturday.
Framingham Baking limited Sunday’s pizza sales to six slices of plain cheese, no toppings, per person.
“That will take care of 720 customers, so really no need to start a line at 5:30 a.m.,” the post read. “But go ahead if you feel the need.”
In its own post, the city of Framingham on Sunday expressed appreciation. "Thank you to the Thomas family for over a century of service and memories that will live on in our city!"
