Man Assaulted Girlfriend, Pregnant Woman, Officers: Authorities

More details in the case of the 29-year-old whose pregnant dog died in a hot car while he was busy allegedly assaulting women and police.

ASHLAND, MA -- The Chelsea man whose pregnant dog died in a hot car while he fought his girlfriend, her daughters, and police officers pleaded not guilty to 11 charges stemming from the violent incident on the Fourth of July.

Alberto Carmenatty, 29, of Chelsea was arraigned Thursday in Framingham District Court, Ashland Police Chief Craig Davis and Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said. He was charged with assault and battery on a household or family member, assault and battery on a pregnant woman, vandalizing property, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, three counts of assault and battery, and three counts of assault and battery on a police officer.

Authorities said police responding to a report of a fight on Birch Street Wednesday saw Carmenatty appeared to have assaulted a woman known to him. Court prosecutors said the victim was his girlfriend.

The two were arguing when police arrived, and Carmenatty allegedly lunged at the woman. Ashland Police restrained him, and he allegedly resisted arrest and started to fight officers on scene, elbowing one officer and spitting blood into the mouth of another. He also allegedly fought officers at the hospital.

Police said Carmenatty had fought three other people trying to stop him from assaulting his girlfriend before officers arrived. One of the people was one of the victim's daughters who was five months pregnant, prosecutors said.

Police then learned Carmenatty left his dog in his car prior to the altercations. The dog died from heat-related injuries.

No one has been charged in the death of the dog, but charges may be issued, authorities said.

Bail for Carmenatty was set at $500. A judge ordered he not abuse the female victim

The next hearing is scheduled for Aug. 24.
