Man Robs Convenience Mart After Failing At Other Location: Cops

Both incidents took place within less than 30 minutes Sunday, but Framingham Police believe the same suspect was involved in both crimes.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Police are searching for a man that they say robbed a local convenience store Sunday night less than 25 minutes after he was unsuccessful in robbing another, Framingham Police said on Monday.

The suspect, whom police described as wearing a blue ski mask, green coat and blue pants, robbed the Downtown Convenience store located at 133 Kendall St. just after 8:30 p.m. Sunday, a department spokeswoman said.

The man approached the clerk and demanded cash from the cash register. The clerk initially thought the man was joking but then did as they were asked when the man demanded money again and told the clerk to hurry up, according to Lt. Patricia Grigas.

According to a police report from the incident, the suspect may have stopped outside of the store to hand a woman $100 from his pocket before leaving the property.

The robbery came shortly after the man attempted to get cash from a clerk at El Pikante/Central Food Mart at 530 Waverley St. just before 8:15 p.m.

In that incident, the man paid cash for a soda he had grabbed from the refrigerator and then gestured like he had a weapon in his pocket when the clerk took the money, according to a police report. The man then demanded that the clerk open the cash register as he was tapping his jacket on the counter. According to the report, the clerk noticed something hard in the man’s jacket pocket and believed it was a gun.

The clerk told the man she couldn’t open the register and then told a co-worker to call 911, which prompted the man to leave the store without successfully getting any money, Grigas said.

Police continue to investigate both incidents.
