No Swimming In Lake Cochituate Amid Blue-Green Algae Bloom

This advisory extends to all ponds within Lake Cochituate, including those in Framingham, Natick and Wayland.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Blue-green algae blooms in Lake Cochituate have prompted state officials to advise the public to avoid swimming in the water.

All ponds at Lake Cochituate are part of the advisory, which includes ponds in Framingham, Natick and Wayland, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

People and animals can become sick if they ingest water with cyanobacterial blooms, better known as blue-green algae.

Lake Cochitaute is one of two Framingham lakes to have blooms present, according to the Department of Public Health.

Lake Waushakum also has a bloom present, as of the Aug. 11 report, which means residents in Ashland and Framingham should avoid swimming in the water.
