Superintendent Tremblay Postpones Calendar Vote For Feedback
After much debate about the district calendar and the topic of Columbus vs Indigenous People's Day, the superintendent wants more feedback.

FRAMINGHAM, MA- The Framingham School District's 2019-2020 calendar draft is done and Superintendent Tremblay wants residents to weigh in it.
The Framingham School Committee was presented with the draft calendar at their meeting on Jan. 2. That meeting also sealed the fate of the debate to rename Columbus Day, with a majority vote vetoing the switch to Indigenous People's Day. The topic has been hotly debated nationally and was brought to the School Committee by the Racial Equity Subcommittee after residents voiced concern.
Dr. Tremblay has requested a postponement of the vote on the calendar originally scheduled for Jan. 16 to now be shifted to Feb. 6 in order to give sufficient time for public comment. The calendar is in a new format - one that better identifies major religious and cultural holidays and it identifies 'no homework days', also known as Family, Friend, and Neighbor Days.
