Earlier this spring, the Framingham Public Schools opted to . It laid off it school bus drivers and gave for Framingham Public Schools, and some private schools in town.
During the first week of school, there were some major issues with the school buses. On Tuesday, when school opened at least one-third of the town was still without power due to storm Irene and several major roadways were either blocked by trees, poles or live wires and some major intersections the traffic signals was out.

As the school week continued, some buses improved and others didn't.
And yesterday, Framingham Patch reported on a . The bus driver, according to the parent, never stopped at her bus stop 10 minutes from her elementary school.
The parents of the missing child said the Superintendent of Schools told him there is a meeting between the Framingham Public Schools and Durham School Services scheduled on Tuesday. Neither the Superintendent of Durham School services returned phone calls to Framingham Patch on Friday.
Below is the job description posted for the assistant director of transportation, from the school district's website:
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma required, college coursework preferred.
2. Ten years experience working in the area of transportation with some knowledge of public school transportation procedures.
3. Proficiency with a Transportation Management Software system (Edulog preferred).
4. Availability to be on call 24 hours per day for emergency purposes.
5. Ability to manage Transportation Office in the absence of the Director.
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
POSITION GOALS:
General: Responsible for maintaining a smooth and efficient transportation system for the Framingham Public Schools. The Assistant Director of Transportation will act in place of the Director when necessary and will participate in various activities as assigned by the Director.
Specific:
1. Set up and maintain route schedules with the goal of maximizing vehicle efficiency.
2. Review route schedules and patterns with transportation vendor.
3. Participate in special projects such as redistricting and school closing projections.
4. Maintain accurate regular payrolls and specialty project payrolls for the Transportation Office employees.
5. Maintain detailed records required by the Director of Transportation.
6. Handle telephone inquiries and complaints.
7. Initiate and follow up on disciplinary matters involving students.
8. Provide immediate response to accident scene, when necessary, by assisting drivers with collection of information on injuries and property damage, assisting authorities as needed.
9. Check roads and school lots during snow emergencies and notify all appropriate personnel of school closings.
10. Estimate field trip costs and expedite procedures associated with such trips.
11. Monitor and check vendor invoices and vouchers.
12. Inspect bus stops and check drivers’ performance on the road.
13. Establish and maintain accurate rider eligibility and student listings including standard and special education students.
