Finish the Masterpiece: Sawyer Free Library Art Auction Returns September 18th

An Evening of Art, Community, and Support for the Sawyer Free Library
GLOUCESTER, MA — Cape Ann’s celebrated arts community takes center stage on Friday, September 18, 2026, as the Sawyer Free Library Silent & Live Art Auction returns for an evening of art, community, and spirited bidding. Held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sawyer Free Library, 2 Dale Avenue in Gloucester, the event will feature an exciting collection of original artwork from across Cape Ann and beyond. Works by celebrated local artists Jeff Weaver, Robert Gruppe, and John Trelak will be featured, alongside works by many other talentedlocal and regional artists.

After taking a year off, the Art Auction returns—this time inside the newly renovated and expanded Sawyer Free Library. The Library is open and thriving, but the work of completing the Building Renovation Campaign continues. Proceeds from the auction will help finish the masterpiece and secure this extraordinary community investment
for generations to come.

Bringing even more energy to the evening, the Live Auction begins at 7:00 p.m., led by professional auctioneer Nichole Pirro, CAI, BAS, of Pirro Auction Services. Pirro is a Past President of the Massachusetts Auctioneers Association and an Ambassador for the National Auction Association.

“This is going to be a wonderful night for the Library and for Cape Ann’s arts community,” said Christine Armstrong, Development Director. “Our artists have been incredibly generous, and we can’t wait to bring everyone together to celebrate their work, discover something special, and help us finish the masterpiece.”

Guests can bid on original works through both silent and live auctions, with a wide range of media, styles, and price points. Whether you are an experienced collector, searching for a special piece for your home, or simply looking for a fun night out, everyone is invited to take part.
