Grafton Husband and Wife Arraigned on Child Abuse Charges

A Grafton couple is facing charges after their infant daughter suffered broken ribs and bones.

A Grafton couple that has been accused of harming their infant daughter were arraigned on charges of reckless endangerment and permitting substantial injury to a child.

The Worcester Telegram and Gazette reported that Julie M. Pirrotta, 30, and husband Andrew Pirrotta, 30, of Elmwood Street, were arraigned on charges that their daughter endured rib fractures, broken bones and internal bleeding, that had been allegedly caused by them.

They were held in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Grafton Police Chief Normand Crepeau told the Telegram that the investigation began after a call from a medical facility. The child is in custody of DCF.

Julie Pirrotta’s lawyer argued that authorities should have waited for medical testing because the child may be suffering from rickets, reported Fox 25 Boston.

According to medical searches, including one for the Mayo Clinic, rickets, which is a softening and weakening of the bones in children, makes them susceptible to skeletal deficiencies.
