MassDOT Continues $13.6 Million Project In Grafton And Millbury

GRAFTON, MA—The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is continuing to move forward with a $13.6 million project to resurface and repair an eight-mile section of I-90 (the Massachusetts Turnpike) on both the eastbound and westbound sides in Millbury and Grafton.

This project will have work completed in two phases: during the first phase this year, MassDOT crews and contractors are expected to complete the milling and paving operations on the westbound side of I-90, said the release. During the second phase next year, these same activities will occur on the eastbound side of I-90.

“Resurfacing heavily traveled roadways, such as I-90, is an important step to invest in the future of our transportation systems and ensure people throughout the Commonwealth are able to get to where they need to go,” said Highway Administrator Thomas J. Tinlin in a statement. “MassDOT has designed this significant project in ways that allow operations to occur during off-peak travel hours with minimal impact to the public and local communities, and we are pleased to see this project continuing to move forward.”

To date, construction work has included stormwater management and drainage improvements, milling, and guardrail replacement. Paving operations on the westbound side are expected to begin in May and occur into the summer months, and will then be followed by installation of pavement markings, rumble strips, and other details.

Traffics impacts including temporary, off-peak hour lane closures will be necessary at different points throughout this project in order to allow crews to safely and effectively conduct operations, continued the announcement.
