Alba's Edge ~ A Tapestry of Cultures

March 19 @ 7:30pm The Community House

Alba’s Edge are master weavers. Fusing the Scottish fiddle’s complexity and richness, jazz improvisation and harmony, funk bass lines and rhythms of Latin America, awards audiences with a cohesive and singular musical experience not to be missed! Fiddle, piano, drums and bass come together seamlessly in a new sound that BBC Radio Scotland’s Bruce MacGregor has called “a wonderful concoction”.

The band is fronted by powerhouse brother and sister, Neil and Lilly Pearlman. Celtic influences were strong growing up being the offspring of Highland Soles’ fiddle player and step dancer. While their music originates in the Scottish tradition, both have explored personal artistic journeys which have lead them to develop their own music beyond the traditional.

Neil studied jazz piano extensively growing up and further expanded his musical horizons into Brazilian, Afro-Colombian and Cuban music while studying in New York. He is in demand as a performer and teacher across North America and Europe for his unique blend of Celtic, Jazz and World music on the piano.

Lilly has had a similar artistic journey, absorbing the intricacies of Scottish fiddling growing up and falling in love with the dance and music of Brazil, Cuba and beyond. Through her experiences living and studying in New York and Brazil, she has continued to explore and incorporate influences from various other musical genres–from bluegrass to samba to funk– into her unique Celtic-based fiddle sound.

Doug Berns, a multi-faceted and versatile musician known in the Boston and New York music scene, will be joining the Pearlman’s on bass. A veteran of Neil’s earlier Scottish/Jazz project, Doug lays down the groove with his distinctive bass playing, honed in the funk, afro-beat and jazz communities of New York City.
