Five Things to Know on June 27: A Walking Tour of Downtown Hamilton

An essential get-me-going daily morning column from Hamilton-Wenham Patch.

Today is Thursday, June 27. Here are five things you need to know in Hamilton and Wenham:

1. 70s: It’s over – the forecast calls for the streak of very hot weather to come to an end on Thursday, with temperatures forecasted to be in the 70s. The sky will be cloudy for most of the day with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon, as has been the case all week.

2. Walk: The Hamilton Board of Selectmen will be joined by the Planning Board and Hamilton Development Corp. to walk around downtown Hamilton on Thursday evening at 5 p.m. They will meet at the town parking lot behind Mike’s Auto to take a look at the current conditions of downtown and “identify projects that will improve the downtown image.”

3. Lobsters: The ribbon will be cut on Thursday at the new home for the North Shore’s professional tennis team – Boston Lobsters. The team this year has moved from Ferncroft Country Club in Middleton to a new home right up the road at the Manchester Athletic Center in Manchester-by-the-Sea. The ribbon will be cut for the Joan Norton Tennis Center at 10 a.m.

4. Herons: One of the natural treasures of the North Shore – herons – will be on display on Thursday at the largest heronry in the state at the Trustees of the Reservations’ Coolidge Reservation. “Evening with the Herons” starts at 6 p.m. and costs $12 for Trustees members and $18 for nonmembers. In addition to herons, egrets and ibises will be visible, returning to their night roost. The event requires pre-registration.

There are 15 lunches made by Henry’s Fine Foods available for a special $4 price if reserved ahead of time at the senior center.
