Outdoor Art and Military History Highlight Weekend Calendar

Here's a quick look at some of the events coming up this weekend in Hamilton and Wenham.

What is shaping up to be a classic mid-summer weekend includes the debut of the two town-wide Art Grows Here outdoor art exhibit, plus Military History Day returns to the Wenham Museum.

Plus, up in Byfield a young Wenham actress takes the stage and on Sunday afternoon some rockers from Gloucester will delight the crowd at Patton Park.

Where/When: Various location in Hamilton and Wenham; Daylight through July 22.

Why Go: This is a truly unique art “exhibit” . Use the map, attached to this story as a PDF, to find your way. Make it an adventure by touring the exhibit on a bicycle.

Where/When: start and finish, course winds through ; Saturday, race starts at 9 a.m., registration 7:30-8:45 a.m.

Why Go: On what is expected to be a sultry day, there’s no better time to get out than first thing in the morning. Choose either the 5K or 10K race that will make its way through the scenic Pingree Reservation.

Pricing: $25

Where/When: ; Saturday, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Why Go: Learn about the country’s military history, from both the soldiers on the front lines to their families at home. Saturday also marks the opening of “Anchors Aweigh: Model Ship Display.” Used cell phone will also be collected for Cell Phones for Soldiers.

Pricing: Free with museum admission, $7.50 for adults and $5,50 for children; Free for activity military and veterans with ID.

Where/When: Governor’s Academy, Byfield; Saturday, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Why Go: The performance from Boston Children’s Theater includes Emme Morales of Wenham in a story that “follows the adventures of Elle Woods, the pretty in pink college sweetheart and homecoming queen with the tenacity and enthusiasm to get things done.”

Pricing: $20 or $15 for adults, $10 for students

5. ‘THE BANDIT KINGS’ CONCERT

Where/When: ; Sunday, 5-7 p.m.

Why Go: Pack a picnic dinner, a blanket or lawn chair and plan to hear “a vintage jangle sound and modern rock rhythms” from the Bandit Kings. The Gloucester-based band features two female lead singers.
