Pingree Thespians to Venture 'Into the Woods' This Weekend
"Into the Woods," this year's winter musical at Pingree School, will be performed this weekend.
Alexandra Hatch of Wenham will be playing Cinderella's sister Belinda and Hamilton's Ian Shain will be working back stage in "Into the Woods" - this year’s winter musical at .

The Stephen Sondheim musical explores well-known fairy tales in new and
delightful, but also thought-provoking, ways.
"Into the Woods" has a celebrated history. It’s won multiple Tony Awards and has had several national and international tours and television versions as well as a Broadway revival. Since the Broadway premiere in 1987, it’s been performed regularly by theaters, community groups, and schools.
“Again and again, the relationship between children and parents becomes a
central focal point in this show with all the battles, trust, love and
resentment that are hallmarks of a parent-child dynamic,” said Pingree
Theater Director Barbara Whitney. “Adolescence is often characterized as a
stormy time – a time of self-discovery and tests as well as yearning for
familiar comforts and unknown futures."

These struggles are reflected by the journeys by many of the characters in
"Into the Woods," she said.
"Perhaps a child will gain greater insight into a parent’s difficult choices about what’s best after hearing the Witch proclaim defensively, 'I was just trying to be a good mother' after Rapunzel’s accusations,'" Whitney said, adding: "Aren’t we all just trying to be good parents and children? Of course, we make mistakes and people get hurt but it’s that repeated attempt to do what’s best that’s emphasized so strongly in 'Into the Woods.'”

Tickets are available by calling the box office at 978-468-2194 and the cost is a suggested $10 donation per ticket. The theater at Pingree School is handicapped accessible.
