Presenting... The Drowsy Chaperone
"Absolutely hilarious"… "A stellar cast"... Stage 284 at The Community House
Stage 284 presents The Drowsy Chaperone, January 23-31. The hilarious musical farce features one show-stopping song and dance number after another poking fun at all the tropes that characterize musical theater.
Impressed by previous Stage 284 productions, Doug Brendel (‘The Man in the Chair’) is delighted to make his Stage 284 debut along with this hilarious and talented cast. “The Man in the Chair” is one of the most endearing roles of my life. It’s also more of a stretch for me than anything I’ve done in community theatre, because he’s so not “me”!”
After a quarter-century hiatus, Brendel returned to Community Theater this past year, appearing locally in Into the Woods (Mysterious Man), Camelot as (King Arthur), and The Fantasticks (El Gallo).

Bob Pitts, of Wenham, will be performing the part of Underling, the eccentric dowager’s butler. For the past 13 years, Bob has been involved with local community theaters in capacities both on and off stage. “This is my second production of The Drowsy Chaperone. I fell in love with it the first time, playing a Pastry Chef. A different cast shines a new light on the show, as each actor contributes his or her style and interpretation to their roles; so in this way, it has become a new show for me.”
The Drowsy Chaperone will make for the 14th musical performance for Masconomet High student, Sam Scherbak. An enthusiast of music and acting this will be her first appearance on Stage 284’s stage. “I am honored to be working with such talented adults in the show who are both fantastic actors and role models. They each provide an excellent example of the successes that result from dedication, teamwork, and having fun in the process!”
