Abington Man Arrested at Nantasket Beach on Gun Charges
State police responded to Nantasket Beach after receiving a report of a man who was drinking and treating his dog in an aggressive manner.

HULL, MA - A man that was reportedly drinking on the beach and treating his dog poorly was arrested after police allegedly discovered multiple weapons in his possession and in his car.
Paul Martell, 55, of Abington, was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm with ammunition, carrying a dangerous weapon, and illegal consumption of alcohol on DCR property, according to state police.

At about 2:15 p.m., police investigated a complaint about a man on Hull Shore Drive in Hull. The man, identified as Martell, was allegedly drinking on Nantasket Beach and treating his dog in an overly aggressive manner.
When troopers responded, Martell was was already speaking with Hull police officers, who determined he was in possession of an open bottle of whiskey.

Following a preliminary investigation, Martell was placed under arrest for violating both town and DCR regulations, which prohibit drinking alcoholic beverages on the beach, police said.
During an investigation, police allegedly located a Walther PPK/S handgun, a fully loaded magazine, and a large folding knife on Martell. They then located additional knives of various sizes, a hatchet, a dagger, and a double sided machete in his vehicle.
Martell was held on $240 bail and will be arraigned in Hingham District Court. Hull Animal Control took custody of his dog.
