Carbon Monoxide Detectors Credited With Saving Lives In Hingham
The Hingham Fire and Emergency Management Department said carbon monoxide alarms might have saved the lives of a family Saturday night.

HINGHAM, MA — The Hingham Fire and Emergency Management Department said proper installation of carbon monoxide alarms may have saved the lives of a family Saturday night. Hingham fire responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting CO alarms that would not stop sounding Saturday night and recorded dangerous levels of the colorless, odorless gas, which can be deadly.
Hingham fire said they have responded to several incidents involving high CO levels in recent weeks. They said it is always important to call them and have them measure the CO levels in the house, and anyone exposed, to see if it is a false alarm or a potentially fatal elevation of levels.
"These residents saved their own lives last night by calling 911 and by having CO detectors installed on every level of the home and within 10 (feet) of every bedroom," Hingham fire posted on their Facebook page. "Please remember that if any alarm is sounding in your home, evacuate, shut the door on the way out and call 9-1-1 from outside the home, if possible."
