Quincy Man Killed in Route 3A Crash

Police have identified the victim as a 51-year-old male from Quincy.

HINGHAM, MA - A 51-year-old male from Quincy has died after a car crash on Route 3A.

At 10:18 a.m. Monday morning, police responded to a crash at the intersection of Kilby Street and Chief Justice Cushing Highway/Route 3A. Officers found one vehicle on its side with two occupants trapped inside, including one that was partially ejected. Both were removed and taken to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a Ford Ranger was traveling north on Kilby Street and entered Chief Justice Cushing Highway before crashing into a Nissan Pathfinder that was traveling west. The crash caused the Ford to spin and roll onto its passenger side while the Nissan slid off the road and into a fence, according to police.

The scene was cleared by 2 p.m.

The driver of the Ford, the 51-year-old man, died at the hospital. The passenger, a 61-year-old Quincy man, was transferred to Brigham and Women's Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Neither men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Weather was not a factor in the crash, police said.

The driver of the Nissan, a 43-year-old Marshfield woman, suffered minor injuries and declined to be taken to the hospital. She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

No charges have been filed. The accident remains under investigation.
