Elderly Hingham Man Loses $2,400 in IRS Scam
Police say the man was told to buy eight iTunes gift cards.

HINGHAM, MA - An elderly 74-year-old resident lost nearly $2,500 in an IRS scam, police said.
On Thursday, the victim received a call from a man who identified himself as an IRS agent. The "agent" said the resident owed the IRS money and needed to pay immediately or they would take action against him, police said.
The "agent" sent instructions to the man, who told him to purchase eight iTunes gift cards valued at $2,400. He then called the "agent" back and gave him the card numbers and codes on each card.

Later that night, the victim told his wife what happened, who said she thought it sounded like a scam.
The next day, the man reported the incident to police. Officers told the man to check the balance on the cards, which had a total of $30 remaining.
