Hingham Congregational Church Honored For Volunteer Efforts

Church's volunteers to be recognized at FoodFest fundraiser to help end homelessness.

HINGHAM, MA - From Hingham Congregational Church: Father Bill’s & MainSpring (FBMS), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to ending homelessness in Southern Massachusetts, will recognize the volunteers from the Hingham Congregational Church during the agency’s 24th annual FoodFest fundraiser, taking place Tuesday, July 31, from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Launch at Hingham Shipyard and Hingham Beer Works.

The volunteers from Hingham Congregational Church will receive the Richard C. & Virginia A. Welch Dedicated Volunteer Award, given annually to an individual or group that has supported FBMS’ mission to prevent and end homelessness in Southern Massachusetts.

“The Hingham Congregational Church has been a part of our mission for almost three decades now,” FBMS President & CEO John Yazwinski said. “Anytime through the years that we’ve sent over our Wish List for what our emergency shelters may need, they’ve never disappointed.”

Since the 1980s, the Hingham church has delivered a vast collection of useful supplies, generous financial support, and countless volunteer hours. Every Thanksgiving, the church donates the dozens of turkeys needed to feed the guests of FBMS’ community meal in Quincy. In addition, church volunteers have been integral to the operation of the Rust House in Hingham by providing substantial renovations to the property and organizing social activities for the tenants. Rust House, located on Main Street, is home to five formerly homeless women.

FoodFest, returning to Hingham for a fourth straight year, will feature a tasting with nearly 40 of the South Shore’s most popular restaurants, bakeries, and beverage distributors. Guests will enjoy stunning ocean views, live music, and opportunities to participate in a silent auction, chance raffle, and wine pull.
