Hingham Fire Chief Announces Retirement

Olsson, who turns 65 in February month, will enter mandatory retirement that same month, as is required by state law.

HINGHAM, MA — At the end of February, a 41-year career will end for Hingham Fire Chief Robert Olsson.

Olsson, who turns 65 that month, will enter mandatory retirement, as is required by state law for firefighters, police officers and corrections officers. Selectmen Chairman Mary Power told the Patriot Ledger that the board will reluctantly accept his retirement letter Tuesday.

During his last six months on the job, Olsson will help the board with the process to find the next fire chief.

Olsson has been the town's chief since October 2015. His brother, Glenn Olsson will remain on board as the town's police chief.
