Hingham High School to Compete in Televised Quiz Show

The school was chosen out of 120 schools to compete in a high school quiz show broadcasted by WGBH.

Hingham High School is among 15 other High Schools across the state that will compete in a televised academic tournament.

The schools were chosen out of 120 schools in a high school quiz show broadcasted by WGBH.

“This competition provides a platform to celebrate the dedication of Massachusetts educators, parents and students to academic excellence,” said WGBH President and CEO Jon Abbott in a press release.

Contestants will be quizzed on current events, general knowledge and Massachusetts high school curriculum standards in subjects including literature, history, science and math.

Taping begins in January in front of a studio audience and the show will premiere on WGBH 2 on Saturday, Feb. 7.

This will be High School Quiz Show’s sixth season and the show is hosted by Billy Costa. “WGBH is proud to bring an entertaining spin to the world of high school academics for the sixth year running,” Abbott said.

WGBH announced the tournament field for High School Quiz Show on Monday on the High School Quiz Show website.

The high schools that will compete along with Hingham High School for the state title include:

  • Acton-Boxborough High School (season five champion)
  • Advanced Math & Science Academy
  • Arlington High School
  • Belmont High School
  • Boston University Academy (first time in tournament)
  • Central Catholic High School (first time in tournament)
  • Chelmsford High School
  • Framingham High School
  • Lexington High School
  • Longmeadow High School (season one champion)
  • Newton North High School
  • North Quincy High School (season four champion)
  • Oliver Ames High School (first time in tournament)
  • Shrewsbury High School
  • Wellesley High School

Three of the schools are former championship teams from previous seasons and three new schools have been added to the tournament as well.
