Hingham to Honor Fallen Marine with Memorial Service

A memorial service with full military honors will be held for United States Marine Corps Corporal Christopher J. Orlando.

HINGHAM, MA - A marine from Hingham who lost his life in a training exercise will be honored Friday.

The Massachusetts State Police has announced that a memorial service with full military honors will be held on April 29 at St. Paul’s Parish in Hingham for United States Marine Corps Corporal Christopher J. Orlando.

A service will be held inside the church at 11 a.m. Afterwards, members of the Marine Corps will present military honors to Corporal Orlando’s parents and other family members on the front steps of the church.

Orlando joined the Marine Corps in 2012. He went missing in January after two helicopters collided near the north shore of Oahu.

Orlando is survived by his parents, Richard and Linda Orlando of Hingham; his sister and brother in-law, Gina and Brian Devine of Boston; his brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Amber Orlando, and nephew, Noah, of West Bridgewater; his grandparents, Anthony and Viola Orlando of Quincy and John and Irina Higgins of Plymouth; and many aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as countless friends.

Due to the service, North Street will be closed to westbound traffic from the intersection with Route 3A to the east of Saint Paul’s Parish, to the intersection with Lincoln Lane to the west. Eastbound traffic from South Street merging onto North Street in Hingham Square, heading east to 3A, will be uninterrupted.

Heading south from the church, Main and Central Streets will be closed where they intersect with South Street. Coming toward the church from the north, Lincoln Street will be closed at the intersection with Lincoln Lane, and Fearing Road will be closed at the intersection with Cottage Street.

Additional temporary traffic restrictions may be imposed if determined to be necessary, state police said.
