Hingham Letter Investigation Could Become Criminal

The author of the letter has been ordered to answer questions from the town's private investigator.

Town officials are hinting that an investigation into who wrote two anonymous letters to the Board of Selectmen could become a criminal investigation.

Matthew Hersey, a Department of Public Works employee who admitted to writing one of the letters, has been ordered by Town Administrator Ted Alexiades to answer questions from Hingham’s private investigator truthfully or face consequences that could induce the termination of his employment according to CommonWealth Magazine.

“The only questions you do not have to answer are questions the answers to which may implicate you in criminal activity, as you are not being granted immunity from criminal prosecution,” Alexiades said in his letter.
