Hingham Officer Arraigned on Fraud Charges

On Thursday, police Sgt. Kris Phillips, 52, was arraigned in Brockton Superior Court.

A suspended Hingham police officer has pleaded not guilty to insurance fraud.

Police Sgt. Kris Phillips, 52, was arraigned in Brockton Superior Court, according to WATD. He was released on personal recognizance.

Phillips is charged with witness intimidation by misleading a police officer, perjury, and two counts of filing a false insurance claim. In December, Phillips was working a police detail at the Hingham Shipyard retail complex when he alleged that he was struck injured by a person backing a car out of a parking spot.

A police investigation revealed that Phillips’ claim of being struck and the manner of the incident were fabricated.

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s office allege that Phillips misled Hingham officers responding to the accident and filed false reports of injuries as a result of the alleged accident and fraudulently received health insurance coverage for treatment from Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

Last week, Philips was placed on unpaid leave by the Hingham Board of Selectmen.

Philips is due back in court for a pre-trial hearing on Feb. 29.
