Hingham Police Announce Coronavirus Policy

Visitors to the Hingham Police Department will be restricted to the lobby; are asked to inform the officer of any cough or fever.

HINGHAM, MA — The Hingham Police Department is issuing a visitor protocol amid the coronavirus pandemic. Police said that visitors to the police station said that visitors will be restricted to the lobby and are asked to inform the responding officer of any cough or fever.

Visitors are asked to use the intercom to contact an officer inside the main station and inform officers of any cough or fever.

If no one answers and it is an emergency, visitors are urged to contact 9-1-1. If no one answers the intercom and it is not an emergency, visitors are asked to call 9-1-1.

Station visitors there to release a tow, file a report or speak to an officer are asked to inform the responding officer on the intercom and they will arrange for one to meet the visitor in the lobby.

Hingham Public Schools will be closed for the next two weeks. Hingham Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Austin announced on Friday that the situation would be reevaluated ahead of a planned reopening of March 30.Dr. Austin said the state told him that while district-wide closing were not recommended as of Friday morning, the town is taking the proactive test in hopes of mitigating the spread of the disease in the region. He said there is no known positive test for coronavirus in the town as of Friday.

Hingham town officials also announced Friday night that all town offices, not including the landfill and Rafael's, will be closed effective immediately through at least March 22. Hingham police announced they have also canceled all firearms licensing and fingerprint appointments until at least March 22.
