Holiday Week Entertainment Sparkles at SSC's Summer Spotlight 20th Anniversary Season
Holiday classic celebration with the Evenings Under the Stars Orchestra and family entertainer Keith Munslow in concert during July 4th week
The celebratory 20th anniversary season of South Shore Conservatory’s (SSC) Summer Spotlight rises to sparkle status when the outdoor concert series offers two special events during the July 4th holiday week. Wacky Wednesdays family concerts welcomes arts and literacy focused entertainer Keith Munslow, on July 6 at 10 am. The Independence Day celebration is paralleled in the 20th anniversary season launch of Evenings Under the Stars concerts on Saturday, July 9, 7 pm with the popular Evenings Under the Stars Festival Orchestra and Conductor Nicholas Palmer presenting Let the Celebration Begin! All performances take place in the Jane Carr Amphitheater at One Conservatory Drive in Hingham.
Wacky Wednesdays family concerts are sponsored by the The Harold and Avis Goldstein Trust, with WATD as the media partner. Evenings Under the Stars Saturday evening concerts are generously sponsored by Hingham Institution for Savings.
A Wacky Wednesdays favorite, Keith Munslow has entertained thousands of children and adults at festivals and concerts throughout New England. His numerous recordings for children and families include Accidentally On Purpose, and Dressed Up for the Party, both of which garnered Parents’ Choice Awards and national radio play. Keith’s newest album, Tiny Destroyer, features stories and songs reflecting the chaos and humor of everyday family life. Keith also performs with the New Orleans-flavored blues band, Superchief Trio, and in a hilarious duo show with Grammy® Award-winning performer Bill Harley. As always, complimentary lemonade and chocolate milk are on tap for thirsty children and adults alike at this concert series.

On Saturday evening, Let the Celebration Begin! celebrates Maestro Nicholas Palmer’s 20th season in concert conducting the EUS Orchestra, along with the 20th anniversary season of Evenings Under the Stars Festival concert series. This concert begins with an anniversary champagne reception, where guests can mingle with the conductor and Jim Simpson, founder of SSC and EUS. Special amphitheater décor, cake and other surprises await this once in a life time event.
The celebratory “best of orchestra” showcase opens with Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, complete with offstage brass, the sublime Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, followed by the iconic Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, featuring two-time SSC Concerto Competition Winner Karen Ji of Hingham. The second half continues with the Pops theme an American in Paris (a true orchestra tour de force), the 1812 Overture and of course, Stars and Stripes forever.

Summer Spotlight concerts continue on Wednesday mornings and Saturday evenings through July 30. All concerts take place in the Jane Carr Amphitheater, One Conservatory Drive, Hingham. Evenings Under the Stars Saturday evening concerts start at 7 pm, Wacky Wednesdays family concerts start at 10 am. Parking for Wednesday morning concerts is onsite for everyone. Although limited onsite parking is available for handicapped patrons, parking for Saturday night concerts for the public is at the Hingham School Bus Depot.
Tickets for Evenings Under the Stars performances purchased before the day of the concert are $40 for pavilion and $25 for lawn seating. Evenings Under the Stars tickets purchased at the door are $45 for pavilion seating and $30 for the lawn. With the exception of A Celtic Sojourn, cabaret seating for six is available at Evenings Under the Stars concerts for $140 per table, and includes a bottle of wine. Preconcert reception tickets are $25.
Tickets for Wacky Wednesdays family concerts are $15 adult and $5 children. Season subscriptions to the four Saturday evening concerts are available for $240 for pavilion and $180 for lawn seating and include the pre-concert receptions.
