Iraq War Veteran From Hingham Receives Hero's Welcome

The Town of Hingham welcomed home Curtis Leonard Monday night.

HINGHAM, MA — Like they have in the past, Hingham gave a returning member of the military a hero's welcome.

Monday night, Iraq War veteran Curtis Leonard came home with a police detail and residents lining the streets to greet the 25-year-old.

"They’re risking their lives for us. We honor them and we’re proud of each and every one of them that leave from our town," Hingham Director of Veterans' Services Keith Jermyn told the media outside of Leonard's home. "This is an inherently dangerous profession and you’re not guaranteed to go home. To welcome each and every veteran here…it’s a tribute and honor to each and every veteran here."

When a servicemember returns to Hingham, it is tradition that they receive a police escort from the Hingham town line to their home with residents lining the streets with flags and signs.

Leonard's father Bill told WHDH, that it was good to have his son home and it was hard to not shed a tear.
