An enchanting afternoon of solos and duos in concert

The James Library & Center for the Arts, Norwell’s historic community arts center and lending library, presents Weekend Classics: Pianist Gloria Chien and Violinist Soovin Kim in concert on Sunday, November 6, 3 pm, 24 West Street, Norwell. The performance is sponsored by Helen Garvey and George Aldoupolis, Mark and Jennifer McGreenery, Ross and Caroline Nowak, Michael and Kathleen Vitale, and Scott and Kim Waugh.

Lincoln Center pianist Gloria Chien and award-winning NEC faculty member and violinist Soovin Kim perform an enchanting afternoon of solos and duos, including Brahms G Major Sonata, Liszt Venezia e Napoli, Dvorak Romance, Saint-Saëns Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso and more. After the program, attendees are invited to meet these talented stars during an art gallery reception.

Chosen by The Boston Globe as one of the superior pianists of the year, “…who appears to excel in everything,” pianist Gloria Chien made her orchestral debut at the age of 16 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared as soloist under the batons of Sergiu Comissiona, Keith Lockhart, Thomas Dausgaard, and Irwin Hoffman, and in recitals the world over. An avid chamber musician, Chien has been the resident pianist with the Chameleon Arts Ensemble of Boston since 2000. In 2009, she launched String Theory, a chamber music series in downtown Chattanooga, as its Founder and Artistic Director. The following year, she was appointed Director of the Chamber Music Institute at the Music@Menlo Festival. A native of Taiwan, Chien is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music. She is an Associate Professor at Lee University in Cleveland, TN, a member of Chamber Music Society Two of Lincoln Center, and a Steinway Artist.
