HINGHAM, MA — A Mattapan man was arrested Saturday after Hingham officers seized half a pound of cocaine, 15 ounces of marijuana and over $12,000 cash at a traffic stop, police said. Adonis Ruiz, 25, was charged with operating under the influence of drugs, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and cocaine, failure to stop for police, and marked lane violations.
Around 1:30 a.m., Hingham police tried pulling over Ruiz's 2018 Audi SUV when he stopped at a green light and then drove through a red light at the intersections of Whiting and Cushing streets. According to police, Ruiz briefly ignored the traffic stop and kept driving down Whiting Street until he eventually stopped.

Police said Ruiz stayed in drive after he stopped and then abruptly drove forward. Officers had to use a loud speaker to get Ruiz to stop, police said.
Ruiz was given a field sobriety test because police said his eyes were bloodshot and he admitted to smoking marijuana prior to driving. Police said he failed the test.
