Police: 20 Cars Broken Into Around Hingham

Police say all the cars reported on Tuesday were in south Hingham.

At least 20 cars were broken into Monday and Tuesday according to the Hingham Police Department.

Police say they received numerous reports of unlocked vehicles that were entered overnight. In all the cases, the vehicles were left unlocked in the driveway, including two that left their windows open overnight.

Items taken from the cars include purses, Apple Macbook, coins, cash, credit cards and jewelry. Other vehicles were rummaged through, but the nothing of significant value was missing.

As of Tuesday, 20 cars that were entered were reported. The cars reported Monday were all were in south Hingham neighborhoods.

In addition, two unlocked vehicles were moved out of a driveway on Winthrop Road between 3:15 and 4:45 a.m. Tuesday morning. The keys had been left in both of the vehicles.

One vehicle was left in the middle of the road in front of the house. The second vehicle, a 2012 Nissan Rogue, was stolen and recovered later in Wellesley.

A neighbor had noticed the first vehicle abandoned in the middle of the road at 4:45 a.m. but did not call the owner or police to report it. Police received the first report of an abandoned car in the road at 5:58 a.m.
