South Shore Conservatory Presents Third Annual Hingham Jazz Festival

Featuring one full day of original, contemporary and traditional jazz, rock and pop

Tickets are now on sale for South Shore Conservatory’s (SSC) third Hingham Jazz Festival on Sunday, September 25, with music showcased all throughout SSC’s Hingham campus at One Conservatory Drive. Chateau Edmus is the presenting sponsor of the Festival.

Featuring the diverse talents of its own jazz/rock/pop (JRP) department faculty members, Hingham Jazz Festival kicks off with a catered Jazz Brunch featuring a generous serving of savory and sweet brunch items by Ellen MacKenzie Catering, paired with live jazz in the Jane Carr Amphitheater from 11 am – 1 pm. Brunch includes delicious egg dishes, muffins, bagels and French toast, as well as free flowing coffee, tea and juice. Audience members are encouraged to come for the hot food, and stay for the cool jazz. Last year’s brunch was a sellout.

At 1 pm, the musical lineup moves inside the building as SSC vocalist Emily Browder Melville and her ESP Vocal Trio presents close harmony jazz at 1 pm in Cox Hall, followed by the Elan Mehler Jazz Trio playing free flowing original contemporary jazz in the SSC lobby at 2 pm. SSC jazz pianist Mehler’s lively and rhythmic performance captivated audience members at last year’s brunch. At 3 pm, SSC blues pianist Anthony Geraci, whose CD Fifty Shades of Blue pushed him to the front of the blues world earlier this year, presents the best of the blues in SSC’s lobby.

Recognizing the crushing loss of so many rock icons over the last year or so, the festival moves back outside to the Carr Amphitheater at 4 pm for Rock: In Memoriam, a concert honoring their combined musical legacy. Among the jazz, rock and pop greats whose music is featured is Prince, BB King, David Bowie, Eva Cassidy, and Merle Haggard.

“These talented musicians have changed the world of music in such a powerful way,” says SSC Director of Performance, Beth MacLeod Largent. “We felt it was fitting to honor their remarkable contribution at this year’s festival.”

SSC is grateful to the individuals who generously donated the matching funds required as part of this grant.
