South Shore Conservatory’s Concert Series Presents Gypsy Caravan: The Fire and Passion of Hungarian Style
Gypsy-inspired music, with selections from Liszt, Brahms, and Ravel in Duxbury and Hingham
South Shore Conservatory’s renowned Conservatory Concert Series (CCS) presents Gypsy Caravan: The Fire and Passion of Hungarian Style, a concert of gypsy-infused music on Sunday, November 13, 4 pm at 64 St. George Street in Duxbury. The program is repeated on Sunday, November 20 at One Conservatory Drive in Hingham.
CCS concerts showcase the numerous talents of the Conservatory faculty’s nearly 100 educator/performers. Gypsy Caravan is the second of five programs in the CCS 2016/17 season. In an effort to expand access to arts education and performance, SSC provides free admission to these concerts. The November 20 performance of Gypsy Caravan is sponsored by The Harold and Avis Goldstein Trust.
Composers have long come under the spell of Hungarian music, with its exotic gypsy-infused flavor, and Gypsy Caravan showcases this free-spirited music, with selections from Liszt, Brahms, and Ravel, all of whom succumbed to the guilty pleasure of writing in gypsy style. Works include Hungarian Rhapsody No. 13, by Liszt, Tzigane, by Ravel, and Zigeunerlieder and Rondo all Zingarese from Piano Quartet No. 1, by Brahms. The November 20 concert in Hingham features a special appearance by an advanced student trio comprised of Jennifer Boyd, piano, Sarah Calame, violin, and Francesca Corrado, cello, performing two movements of Haydn’s Gypsy Rondo. The trio is coached by Piano Department Chair Jonathan Roberts.
