South Shore Conservatory's Evenings Under the Stars Presents A Grand Night for Singing

Featuring the much-loved musical theater tunes of Rodgers and Hammerstein

South Shore Conservatory’s Evenings Under the Stars concert series continues its 20th anniversary celebration with A Grand Night for Singing: The Music of Rodgers and Hammerstein on Saturday, July 30, at 7 pm. Sponsored by Dorothy Palmer, this is the final of four EUS Saturday evening open air summer concerts in the Jane Carr Amphitheater at One Conservatory Drive, Hingham.

Featuring the talents of South Shore Conservatory (SSC) voice faculty members, this delightful cabaret brings to life familiar show tunes from musicals such as Oklahoma, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, The Sound of Music, and Cinderella. Singing along with SSC’s voice faculty are a chorus and a small ensemble that add to the charming evening of lovely, unforgettable music.

Some favorite tunes include Surrey with the Fringe on Top, I Cain’t Say No, Maria, Honey Bun, The Gentleman is a Dope, I’m Gonna Wash that Man Right Outa My Hair, If I Loved You, Shall We Dance, and many more. Interesting arrangements, gorgeous melodies, and a starlit night make this a must-attend event.

SSC faculty members performing include mezzo-soprano Beth MacLeod Largent, soprano Holly Ann Marshall, baritone Devon Morin with Sarah Troxler on piano, Chris Rathbun on bass, and Jesse Stiglich on percussion. SSC is delighted to invite back guest artist and former SSC faculty member soprano Beth Canterbury for this special performance.

Prior to the concert audience members are invited to have light hors d’oeuvres and drinks, mingle with other guests and meet the performers at a pre-concert reception. The Fresh Market is the sponsor of this reception.

Evenings Under the Stars is one of two series in the Conservatory’s diverse Summer Spotlight outdoor summer entertainment. Summer Spotlight also includes fun Wacky Wednesdays family concerts which started its season on June 29 with Parents’ Choice award winner Karen K & the Jitterbugs. All concerts take place in the Jane Carr Amphitheater at One Conservatory Drive in Hingham, which completely updated its lighting and sound system last year, thanks to Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund, a program of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, administered through a collaborative arrangement between MassDevelopment and the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and individuals who generously donated the matching funds required as part of this grant.
