Arrests/Police Log, June 17 edition (hopkintonindependent.com) — Hopkinton’s latest police log shows a relatively quiet week, with no arrests reported and mostly routine calls ranging from minor crashes and loose dogs to lost property and water-ban concerns. Officers also handled issues at Hopkinton State Park, Sandy Beach, and several neighborhood streets, offering a clear snapshot of day-to-day public safety activity around town.

2. Select Board appoints van Raalten to fill interim HPD chief role (hopkintonindependent.com) — Hopkinton’s Select Board named Deputy Chief Scott van Raalten interim police chief starting July 1 and set up a resident-staff screening committee to find a permanent successor to retiring Chief Joseph Bennett. The board also approved steep water and sewer rate hikes for the coming fiscal year and learned the state has officially signed off on Hopkinton’s MBTA Communities zoning plan.

Arts Residency: Victoria Jackson (hopkintonindependent.com) — A Hopkinton High School junior is being celebrated for her award-winning photography, including a gold key piece shown in regional exhibitions. In this regular Hopkinton Independent arts feature, local arts leaders help spotlight students like Victoria Jackson, who now co-leads the HHS Photo Club and consistently produces high-quality, technically strong work.

4. ‘We're all rooting for the same thing': Frontier team earns second place in new Envirothon category (recorder.com) — Hopkinton State Park recently hosted the 2026 Massachusetts Envirothon, where a Frontier Regional School team earned second place in a new Eco Spoken Word category. Students used poetry and hands-on demonstrations to explore AI’s environmental impact and stormwater-driven flooding, sharing practical ideas like artificial wetlands and permeable pavement that could help communities across Massachusetts, including Hopkinton, adapt to climate challenges.
