Writing a Revolution: The Letters of John and Abigail Adams, 1773–1776
Experience the American Revolution through the words of two people who lived it.
From the Boston Tea Party to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Writing a Revolution brings the remarkable correspondence of John and Abigail Adams to life in an intimate theatrical performance featuring actors from the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum.
As John serves as a delegate to the First and Second Continental Congresses in Philadelphia and Abigail remains home in Massachusetts, their letters offer a deeply personal window into a nation on the brink of revolution. Through their own words, audiences will experience the political debates and uncertainty of the era, the struggles of everyday life during the Revolution, and the enduring relationship between one of America’s most fascinating couples.
Presented as the nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Writing a Revolution is an opportunity to experience history not simply as a collection of dates and events, but through the voices of the people who witnessed—and helped shape—it.
Presented by 140Arts Collaborative and featuring performers from the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum.
This live theatrical performance is recommended for adults, families, and older children with an interest in history, theater, and the extraordinary stories behind the founding of the United States.
