Christine Hamilton is Minuteman High School's Outstanding Vocational Technical Student of the Year

Christine Hamilton of Stow, daughter of William and Janet Hamilton and a senior at Minuteman High School in Lexington, has been selected as the school’s Outstanding Vocational Technical Student of the Year.

She was honored for that achievement on Thursday, April 4, along with other Outstanding Vocational Technical Students of the Year from vocational schools and programs across Massachusetts, at an awards event and banquet held at Mechanics Hall in Worcester. The occasion was jointly sponsored by the Massachusetts Vocational Association and the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators.

Hamilton, who is in the Environmental Technology program at Minuteman, has excelled in her career major and has earned the OSHA 10-Hour General Safety Certification, OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) and First Aid/CPR. She has also has passed the Massachusetts Grade 2 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s exam, Massachusetts Class 1 Drinking Water Treatment Plate Operator’s exam, and has obtained her Confined Space Entry Certification.

Hamilton is a member of Minuteman’s National Honor Society, and serves as vice president of the senior class. She is currently ranked number one in her class, and has received highest level honors in English, math, history and science. She has been a member of the Drama Club, and has been awarded a Most Improved trophy for her participation on the cross country team.

An active member of SkillsUSA, a national organization for vocational students, Hamilton has represented Minuteman and Team Massachusetts at the National Skills USA Leadership and Skills Conference for the past three years. Last year in Kansas City, she and her partner placed second in the country and were awarded a silver medal for their Sustainability Solutions project. Hamilton plans on attending college in the fall to become an environmental engineer.
