Free Parking This Friday in Lexington

The town will participate in PARK(ing) Day 2012.

The following announcement was provided by Lexington's Office of Economic Development.

This Friday, Sept. 21, cities and towns will temporarily transform metered parking spaces into public social spaces as part of an annual event called "PARK(ing) Day."

Locally, the Town of Lexington will be participating in Park(ing) Day – the first suburban town in Massachusetts to participate. The Planning and Economic Development Departments are collaborating with residents and local businesses to create an installation for the event, which is planned for the metered parking space at 1720 Massachusetts Ave.

The installation should encourage Lexington citizens to rethink how we use our streets; the modes of transportation used; and re-imagine the possibilities for public outdoor space within the Town Center.

The first Park(ing) Day in 2005 was the invention of Rebar, a San Francisco-based art and design studio. More information regarding PARK(ing) Day activities can be found at www.parkingday.org and www.LexEngage.com
