Funding Approved to Design New Elementary School in Lexington

The Town Meeting Wednesday night gave a new Hastings Elementary School building the go-ahead.

LEXINGTON, MA – The Town Meeting Wednesday night approved the appropriation of funds to design a new Hastings Elementary School in Lexington. According to Lexington Minuteman reporter Al Gentile, the Town Meeting voted 155-0, with one abstention.

What does this mean? The town will appropriate $720,000 for the design phase, part of which will refunded through the Massachusetts School Building Authority's grant program, the Minuteman reported. In all the school is expected to cost more than $60 million.

The school would be located at the current site, and the old site would be converted to parking, according to the Minuteman. It will replace the current facilities – which town officials have stressed have run their course – and increase the number of classrooms by nine.
