Hour-by-Hour Forecast as Wind Chill Values Plummet to -20

Extreme cold will blanket the region Thursday night through early Saturday morning.

A dangerous cold snap will hit the region early Friday morning, pushing wind chill values down to as low as 20 degrees below zero.

The National Weather Service issued a wind chill advisory for eastern Massachusetts and most of Rhode Island on Friday from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m. In weather that cold, frostbite on bare skin can set in after 30 minutes of exposure.

Wind chill values will remain in the subzero region until Saturday, when temperatures will rise to about 25 degrees. There’s a strong likelihood of a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and rain Saturday night and Sunday, according to NWS. That could exacerbate the danger of roof collapses, as the region has seen about 5 feet of snow in February alone.
