LEXINGTON, MA—Joseph Pato, the Chairman of Lexington's Board of Selectmen, announced Monday night that the board would be pursuing the $8 million purchase of the former Armenian Sisters School.

In a statement to Town Meeting Monday, Pato stated that the building, located at 20 Pelham Rd., provides significant opportunities for municipal and school uses. Pato told Patch that the Selectmen and the Finance committee are working together to determine the potential uses for the building.

"We believe it to be a part of the larger broader, large-scale capital plan," Pato told Patch.

Pato also pointed to the potential for the building's gym and cafeteria to be used for municipal purposes in the short term, but that longer term uses were still under discussion.

According to the statement made at Town Meeting, the motion for the acquisition will also include the authority for the town to obtain the property under an eminent domain taking, although the Selectmen are hopeful that a deal will be negotiated with the Armenian Sisters School.

The building at 20 Pelham Rd. is directly adjacent to the Lexington Community Center.
