Lexington Board Of Selectmen Sign Domestic Violence Proclamation
The proclamation declares October Domestic Violence Awareness month in the town.
LEXINGTON, MA — Lexington's Board of Selectmen are leading the town into a new month of awareness for an issue that affects people across the nation, domestic violence. Last week, the board signed a proclamation that declared October 2019 to be Domestic Violence Awareness month in the town.
The proclamation highlighted the need to raise awareness about an issue many people face but few talk about. In the country, an average of 20 people experience intimate partner violence every minute, which equates to ten million victims annually. Of those victims, one in four women and one in seven men have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner, as state in the proclamation.
The board plans to use the month to share resources and efforts by the community to prevent and end domestic violence.
