Lexington Closes Basketball Courts After People Remain Outside

"Some continue to disregard social distancing guidelines by playing games/having group gatherings," the town tweeted.

LEXINGTON, MA — Lexington is cracking down on social distancing enforcement and closing all town-owned basketball courts. The town announced the measure in a tweet on Wednesday. The closure comes after people in town were caught congregating in groups and not abiding by social distancing guidelines.

"Some continue to disregard social distancing guidelines by playing games/having group gatherings. As such, all Town and School-owned basketball courts are now closed," read a tweet from the town.

Playgrounds and the town skate park will remain closed and the basketball courts will be blocked off until further notice. Lexington has 14 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in town and 21 people in town are in self-quarantine.

Governor Charlie Baker stressed the importance of social distancing in his announcement of the stay-at-home advisory. All non-essential businesses were also ordered to close their physical doors.

According to the CDC, the best way of preventing the disease is to avoid close contact with people who are sick, to avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, to wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, and to use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol if soap and water are not available.

To avoid spreading any respiratory illness, the CDC recommends staying at home when you are sick, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue and throwing the tissue in the trash, cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces.
