Below is a letter Bridge Elementary School Principal Meg Colella sent to parents Tuesday:
Just a short while ago, Bridge Staff reported hearing a loud crack in the school building coming from the roof. Out of an abundance of caution, I evacuated all students and staff from the building. The Department of Public Facilities, the Lexington Fire Department and Lexington Building Inspectors inspected the roof, and then cleared students and staff to re-enter the school.

I want to emphasize that all students and staff are safe. With this said, and only with an abundance of caution, Dr. Ash and I have decided to allow parents to pick up their children before the end of the school day. If you are unable to come, or choose to have your child remain at school, children will be supervised in the gymnasium. If you choose to come and pick up your child(ren), students will be dismissed from the fifth grade door accordingly.
PICK UP PROCEDURES: Live Pick Up procedures will be in place. When you arrive in the pick up lane, notify the staff member who you are picking up. The children will be escorted out. If you are unable to pick up your child before 3:15pm, we will follow the usual dismissal procedures and all bus routes will run normally, including all METCO students.
I expect the telephone lines to be busy, so e-mail is a helpful communication tool for us. I will verify receiving your e-mail as soon as possible.
I ask for a calm and orderly dismissal procedure. In the near future I will be sending you an update with any pertinent information.
There will be no after school activities held at Bridge today. If your child was expecting to stay for an activity, and you are not picking him/her up early, please call us at 781-861-2510 to let us know how he/she will be dismissed.
