Lexington Farmers' Market Hosts ANNUAL SNAP EVENT
On Tuesday, September 16th,Tthe Lexington Farmers Market will host it's annual Silent Auction to Benefit SNAP customers.

The Lexington Farmers’ Market will hold it’s annual Silent Auction to raise money for SNAP at the Market on Tuesday, September 16th. The Farmers and Vendors have generously donated a range of their delicious products and LFM volunteers have combined these in creatively themed “baskets” to be bid on and received on the on the day of the silent auction. Items such as the “HAPPY HIPPIE BREAKFAST BASKET”, which contains Granola, Goats Milk, a Gift Certificate to pick your own raspberries, a jar of hive honey and a $25 Of Busa Farm Bucks to buy all the veggies you need to make your own green juice, is one of the fantastic baskets you may bid on . There is also a wine tour and tasting, as well as a day for a family of 4 to go apple picking with hay rides!
As in the past, all the proceeds will be donated to charity; this year to supporting SNAP, as the LFM doubles SNAP shoppers purchasing power. This year we are able to match up to $15 of SNAP funds per shopper.
Annually, we raise approximately $2000 from this fun event. Since the LFM started accepting SNAP 5 years ago, the number of SNAP customers continues to increase. This year we have an average of 5 SNAP customers per week. Typically at our market the SNAP consumer purchases PROTEIN such as eggs, chicken, beef and fish. Approximately 100$ a week is given out to double purchasing power, and SNAP customers spend $200 a week. This event benefits everyone involved: the farmers and vendors donate product, shoppers “win” abundant “baskets” of artisanal/ local foods and SNAP customers have an incentive to continue to shop for healthy local food with their doubled money, and then the SNAP purchases comes back to the farmers and vendors at the end of the day. Please come and be apart of this winning cycle.
