Lexington Post 38 Notches 4-1 Win Over Malden

Tonight is the team's season finale in Ashland.

The Lexington Post 38 Blue Sox beat Malden Post 69, 4- 1 Thursday night at Lexington High School during the team's second-to-last game of the regular season. The Blue Sox play their season finale Friday at Ashland.

With the bases loaded in the third inning, Will Marcal's double drove in Nick Taylor, Tommy McKenna and Scoop Ruxin. The final run came in the fourth inning after Nick Murray hit a triple and Alex Ruocco's grounder allowed Murray to score.

Malden made its one and only run of the game in the top of the seventh when Jeffrey Chabre's RBI single brought Kevin English home from third.

Injuries flared in the sixth and seventh innings.

Malden's Paul Wilson hit the ball off of his lower leg, although he walked it off, literally, walking to first after Lexington pitcher David Maestri threw ball number four. Maestri walked the following batter as well, and another in the seventh.

Nick Murray relieved Maestri in the top of the seventh, but when facing the fourth batter, Marc Woodman, Murray's knee took a hard ball. He was helped off the field and Jason Tzannes began warming up with the catcher.

After a couple minutes of conversation between coaches, umpires and Murray, he was put back in the game at third as he could not be substituted. But, Murray was only in field for English's run and Wilson's game-ending strike out.

Lexington coach Matt Lawlor said he is not sure if Murray can play for Friday's game or any potential playoff games, and he does not know the extent of Murray's injury.

Lawlor said he was happy with how his team played against Malden, and if Post 38 has an opportunity to play in the playoffs, "it would be huge," he said.

"You want to play beyond regular season," said Lawlor. "We've had some tough losses, but they come out and fight until the last out."

Lawlor said that he tells his players before every game, "Go out, try to win. Play hard, run every ball out. Play until the last strike is called."
