Lexington to Screen Documentary on Alcoholism in Women

"My Name Was Bette," a film by Sherri VandenAkker, is about the life and death of her mother.

LEXINGTON, MA – Lexington Community Education will screen a moving documentary about women's alcoholism in February.

"My Name Was Bette: The Life and Death of an Alcoholic," a film by Sherri VandenAkker and Josh W.E. Hays chronicles the progression of alcoholism in VandenAkker's mother, Bette. Bette VandenAkker – a nurse, wife and mother – died in September of 2007.

The filmmakers incorporate interviews, family photographs, medical records, graphics and court documents to provide a heart-wrenching and in-depth look at the physical, emotional and mental toll of alcoholism.

VandenAkker will also be on hand after the screening to discuss the film, which screens Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lexington Depot, 13 Depot Sq.
