Just one in five Lexington students who took the test last spring failed to meet expectations.

LEXINGTON, MA -- Students in grades 3-8 in Lexington Public School had little trouble with the state's new MCAS, standardized test. Overall, 79% of those students met or exceeded expectations in English and 81% of students met or exceeded expectations in Math, according to test results released by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Wednesday. No grade level came close to falling beneath state averages in either test, which hovered around 50% proficiency.

Lexington Public Schools officials were not immediately available for comment. Highlights from the test include 91% of Lexington 8th graders meeting or exceeding expectations in math and 87% of sixth graders doing the same in the tests, which were administered last spring.
